Letter: Vote no on Initiative 1631

By Tom Nelson, Vancouver
Published: October 6, 2018, 6:00am

Don Steinke claims “I-1631 will reduce air pollution” (“Vote for health, I-1631,” Sept. 8, Our Readers’ Views). The initiative gives government power to increase gas taxes and cost of heating oil, natural gas, and electricity, but some large carbon emitters will be exempt: a coal-fired power plant, aircraft manufacturers and paper mills, leaving consumers and small businesses to pay. It’ll cost hundreds annually to average households, according to the Washington Policy Center.

This initiative will be ineffectual in reducing carbon in the hands of governmental bureaucracy; the money will go into the black hole of the state budget. See https://votenoon1631.com/get-the-facts/ for information.
