Letter: Your vote matters

Hyper-nationalism is not patriotism. A U.S. flag on someone’s house should not mean people of a certain persuasion live there. I am reclaiming our flag, and invite everyone to join me. Our flag, our country, our democracy are under assault from within and without. I hope to see our flag popping up everywhere, announcing “Americans live here, and we are paying attention.”

To protect America we must be vigilant for facts: facts have evidence, are demonstrable and provable. We must be mindful, not repeating memes that are designed to divide us. We must know the voting records of those who represent us in government and the actions of those who would like to represent us. Be informed; then vote. Vote as if our flag, our country, our democracy, our children’s future, our very earth depend on you. They do.

Now we see the power in the hands of the very wealthy and privileged. They boldly ignore the will of the people and the rule of law. Only we, the people, can return the power to the people, but only if we vote. Every vote matters! Your vote matters!

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
