Every summer, I enjoy camping on the beautiful Oregon coast, watching birds and walking barefoot in warm sand and cool, clean water. This is one reason I’m dismayed by the Trump administration’s proposal to open up 90 percent of U.S. coastal waters to offshore drilling. Who can forget the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig in 2010, and its aftermath that devastated the Gulf Coast? The same could happen off the shores of Washington and Oregon, ruining my summer vacation as well as the coastal economy. Please ask your members of Congress to take a strong stand against any expansion of offshore drilling.
