Women’s Soccer

THE WEEK THAT WAS

Clark closed out the regular season with a 1-0 win over Clackamas on Wednesday. Turner Joy scored the game’s only goal in the 52nd minute in a match where Clark outshot Clackamas 22-3. The win wrapped up the NWAC South Region title for the Penguins (12-1-1, 11-0-1), who have outscored opponents 54-6.

THE WEEK TO COME

As a No. 1 seed, Clark gets a bye in the NWAC playoffs and will host a quarterfinal match on Nov. 3. The Penguins will face the winner of Whatcom vs. Bellevue, which play in the first round on Oct. 31.

Men’s Soccer

THE WEEK THAT WAS

Clark’s season came to an end Wednesday with a 2-0 loss to Southwestern Oregon, snapping a three-match unbeaten streak. Saturday, the Penguins tied Lane 1-1 with Jesus Cabrera scoring the tying goal in the 61st minute, just 1:13 after Lane took the lead. Clark (3-8-2, 3-6-1) ends the season fourth in the NWAC South.

Volleyball

THE WEEK THAT WAS

Clark’s moved into second place in the NWAC South with a pair of road wins over the weekend. The Penguins swept Umpqua on Friday (28-26, 25-20, 25-17), then beat Southwestern Oregon on Saturday in five sets (18-25, 25-14, 18-25, 25-10, 15-10). Kayla McLaughlin combined for 19 kills over both matches to lead the Penguins. Clark’s winning ways came to an end Wednesday with a three-set loss to Lane at home (28-26, 25-17, 25-21).

THE WEEK TO COME

Clark (15-17, 6-4) has two crucial road matches, starting Friday at Linn-Benton, which leads the NWAC South at 8-1. Wednesday, Penguins then face Chemeketa (5-4), one of three teams within a game of Clark. The top four in the South get a postseason berth.

Cross Country

THE WEEK THAT WAS

Clark did not have a competition. The next meet is Oct. 27 at the Mike Hodges Invitational in Clackamas, Ore. It’s the final meet before the NWAC Championships on Nov. 10 in Lacey.
