Meals on Wheels People to deliver backup meals

In preparation for severe weather, Meals on Wheels People will deliver a two-day supply of shelf-stable meals next month to more than 3,000 local homebound seniors. The meals are to be used on days where bad weather prevents most volunteers from delivering meals.

Participants in Clark County, as well as Multnomah and Washington counties in Oregon, will receive instructions to save these meals until they receive a call from Meals on Wheels People. Staff will check in on clients and instruct them to eat one of their emergency meals, the nonprofit said in a news release Wednesday.

Pre-approved emergency weather drivers will be able to bring food to seniors who are completely without food on severe weather days. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer driver can register online at volunteer.mowp.org or call Catie at 503-953-8101.
