Blazers sign former Oregon State standout Gary Payton II

Training camp opens Sept. 24

PORTLAND — The Portland Trail Blazers signed three players on Tuesday including a popular Northwest connection.

The Blazers added former Oregon State standout guard Gary Payton II, along with forward Cameron Oliver, and center Chinanu Onuaku and guard Gary Payton II, the team announced.

The 6-foot-3 Payton has played 29 games in the last two seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers. He has averaged 3.1 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.2 assists.

In two NBA G League seasons split between Rio Grande Valley, the South Bay Lakers and Wisconsin Herd, Payton averaged 15.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.0 steals and 31.7 minutes in 69 games.

Payton, 25, went undrafted out of Oregon State where he was a two-time Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year and two-time First Team All-Pac-12 member.

Oliver, 6-foot-8, averaged 10.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 39 NBA G League games played with Wisconsin and Delaware during his rookie 2017-18 season. He was undrafted out of Nevada.

Onuaku, 6-foot-10, was the 37th overall draft pick by the Houston Rockets out of Louisville in 2016. He has played in six games for the Rockets. With Rio Grande Valley of the G League, Onuaku averages of 12.3 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.39 blocks in 83 games.

The Trail Blazers will tip-off their training camp on Sept. 24.
