Yacolt — The Gifford Pinchot National Forest is seeking to expand opportunities for organized recreation events in the forest, and is accepting proposals for events to take place in 2019 through Nov. 1. Examples of events include group runs, endurance races, horse competitions and snowmobile events. A total of 25 permits will be available, and if there are more applications than permits available, forest officials will use a lottery system. All new proposals will be reviewed under criteria intended to diversify recreation opportunities, reduce overlap with existing events and increase opportunities for youth-focused events.
