Letter: Focus on hiker safety

By Chuck McGehee, Vancouver
Published: September 17, 2018, 6:00am

I’m responding to the Associated Press story “Officials: Dead Oregon hiker likely killed by cougar” (Sept. 12, The Columbian).

Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife should hold the killing cougar till it’s determined if the hiker died after falling off an embankment or had a heart attack. The cougar might be innocent.

The Legislature should create a law requiring hikers to be in groups of two or more for safety reasons.
