It was as fitting a time as ever for Shalece Easley to notch her first goal of the season.

With three minutes left and the score tied, the Columbia River striker found the back of the net to lift the Chieftains to a 3-2 win over R.A. Long on Thursday night.

Easley, who helped lead River to the state championship game as a sophomore last season, provided the heroics as the Chieftains brace themselves for what looks to be a competitive 2A Greater St. Helens League play.

Stars of the day

• Owen Huntington, Camas boys golf, shot a 3-under 33 at Lewis River.

• Cade Bringhurst, Ridgefield boys golf, shot a 4-under 33 at Tri-Mountain as Ridgefield beat Hockinson.

• Ellie McCann, Ridgefield soccer, had two saves in penalty kicks as Ridgefield defeated Mark Morris.

• Mariah Jensen, Skyview soccer, scored two goals and had an assist in the Storm’s 5-0 win over Black Hills.
