TACOMA — Leaders of a Tacoma megachurch have revealed that its lead pastor was fired over the summer for violating sexual harassment policies.

The News Tribune reported that pastor Dean Curry had been with Life Center, an Assemblies of God church, for 14 years. The church has more than 4,500 members, many of whom had been in the dark about Curry’s absence.

Church leaders held a meeting with a select group of worshippers on Thursday to provide more information about the firing. The meeting was closed to the press, but several members recorded audio and provided it to the newspaper. Nate Angelo, chairman of the church’s executive board, said the board commissioned an independent investigation that looked into allegations of sexual misconduct with a female former employee and other inappropriate behavior stretching back several years.

Curry told The News Tribune he denies the allegations.
