Letter: Big blue wave is needed

Shhh! Whatever you do, please don’t mention the “I” word between now and November. But it’s no secret that a dark parlor game, called impeaching the White House toddler, has cropped up in liberal circles.

These discussions break down into two camps: those who think President Trump presents a threat to our democracy, and those who think impeachment wouldn’t accomplish much.

Consider me in the latter camp. The point is this: The whole Republican Party has evolved into a death cult. In 2017, the GOP tried to force through a health care reform bill. Their so-called Better Care Reconciliation Act would have left millions of Americans without health insurance, especially those who suffer from chronic illnesses such as cancer, diabetes, and heart diseases. This Republican repeal of Obamacare would have killed tens of thousands annually from the lack of health care.

So what else is the Republican Party of death doing? Well, they’re balking at any attempt to stem gun violence. Their obsession with dismantling Social Security and Medicare could kill any hope of retirement for millions. Here’s my favorite: For higher corporate profits, they’re rolling back environmental laws and poisoning our children.

To really combat the deadly red tide, we need a big blue wave.
