Phone scammers seeking money have been posing as Battle Ground police officers, according to the police department.

Scammers have used the names of real officers and called from phone numbers that appear to be associated with the department, a Monday news release said. The callers threaten arrest unless payment is made immediately, the news release said.

“The Battle Ground Police Department never conducts this type of business over the phone nor will they ever ask for any kind of payment,” the news release reads.

Anyone who receives this type of call or voice mail is advised to hang up and can either call 311 or contact the department directly to report it.
