Letter: Trump’s great lie is unbelievable

I give you two famous quotes: “If you repeat a lie often enough, people will believe it, and you will even come to believe it yourself,” and: “A lie told once remains a lie, but a lie told a thousand times becomes the truth.” Both of these are from Dr. Joseph Goebbels, the propaganda minister of Adolf Hitler’s Third Reich.

We know the border needs resources, but we have this cascade of lies from the president and his administration about the need to create an archaic image of the great wall, designed to protect us. Some of us may wish for something to hide behind, to protect us from the symbolic evil of all things called change; cultural, political, economic and perhaps even climate. It will have to be a very large wall to accomplish all of those things. History also reminds us that it will most likely fail.

However, I believe, and it seems that a majority of Americans agree, that this great lie of Trump’s wall is simply unbelievable.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
