Art galleries and local businesses celebrate this month’s art shows with a First Friday Art Walk in downtown Vancouver from 5 to 9 p.m. Visitors can enjoy opening receptions and light refreshments at art galleries, after-hours shopping, dining and drink specials, live music and other events. www.vdausa.org.

Camas

First Fridays in Camas are themed, family-friendly events from 5 to 8 p.m. when galleries stay open late for artist receptions. Guests can also enjoy after-hours shopping, dining and additional activities inspired by the month’s theme. April’s theme is “Spring into History.” downtowncamas.com

Opening exhibits

Chuck Moffit, through April, with an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. April 5. A designer from Mount Baldy, Calif., Chuck Moffit’s works challenge conventional assumptions of gender, history and materials. From April 6 to 14, the exhibit will be featured as part of Design Week Portland, with an open house at 4 p.m. April 10, when Moffit will conduct a demonstration entitled, “Imagining the Subverted Moment,” followed by a Q&A. “4 Seasons,” through May 31, with an opening reception from 5 to 9 p.m. on First Friday, April 5, featuring complimentary refreshments and a chance to meet the artists. This is a group exhibit featuring the work of pastel artist Steve Hill, Tracy Leagjeld, who creates oil-based monotypes, oil painter Romona Youngquist and watercolorist Yong Hong Zhong. “Visions & Voices — A Community Art Experience,” through April 30, opening with a First Friday reception from 6 to 8 p.m. April 5. An exhibit featuring the works of a creative art exchange in which community members were invited to offer a visual or written art piece and anonymously paired to respond to each other’s work. Surface Design Association, through April, with a First Friday reception 5 to 9 p.m. April 5. Randy Cole, through April 30, with a First Friday opening reception from 5 to 8 p.m. April 5. Cole’s art was showcased for several years in a small gallery in North Portland. He studied design, typography, and printing in Munich, Germany. He stayed in Europe for nearly 20 years, developing and designing classical music books and children’s music books, including designing and illustrating the music curriculum books for the Bavarian state school system. “Northwest Wonderland,” through April 27, with an opening reception from 5 to 8 p.m. on First Friday, April 5, featuring light refreshments, live music and a chance to chat with the artist. Camas photographer Dale C. Larson offers metal plates depicting the wildlife and scenery of Washington, Oregon and Alaska.
