Washougal — Gause Elementary fourth-graders in Colleen Davis and Robyn Riat’s classrooms were asked to use scientific knowledge and creativity to draw scribbles by creating robots to do the scribbling. “Students were provided components including batteries, a small motor, plastic cups, pipe cleaners, tape, felt tip pens and Popsicle sticks, and given the engineering challenge to create a device that can scribble across the paper covered table on its own,” Davis said in a release from the Washougal School District. Funding support for the program came from the Gause Boosters. Tami Culp, Gause principal, met with representatives from the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry at the beginning of the year to learn about the museum’s educational programs. Culp worked with staff to identify which courses fit in the district’s curriculum and could receive funding from the booster club.
