Letter: Remove unused train tracks

By Steve Corrie, Waitsburg
Published: April 22, 2019, 6:00am

A couple of years ago I went by an accident by Brush Prairie on Highway 503 at the railroad tracks. Someone looked to be texting when, at probably 50 mph, they hit the back of a school bus parked at the railroad tracks. My question is: why do those tracks still exist? I have lived in this area my whole life, I remember when trains would use those tracks five times a day in the 1970s. I personally have not seen a train there in over 30 years, and the tracks are pretty rusty, too. Why are the tracks still there? Waiting for a kid to die before they are removed?
