It’s already been open for a few weeks, but leaders from Big Lots officially welcomed shoppers to the store’s newest Vancouver location with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday morning.

Representatives from the local One Life Food Pantry were on hand to help kick off a six-week charity partnership program. Big Lots will donate $5 to the nonprofit every time a member of the chain’s BIG Rewards loyalty program redeems a reward at the Vancouver store.

The space, which anchors the Orchards Plaza shopping center at 11606 N.E. 76th St., was previously home to a Safeway but sat empty from May 2016 until fall 2018 when renovations for a Big Lots began. The store has a new internal layout that puts a full-size furniture gallery in the center of the store, and company executives have said the design will eventually be rolled out at all existing Big Lots locations.

The discount department store chain is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, and operates more than 1,400 stores nationwide. The Orchards location is the second Big Lots in Clark County, joining an existing store at the Fisher’s Landing Marketplace. Another Big Lots was previously in the Vancouver Village shopping center, but that store closed in 2012.
