Letter: Protect Constitutional rights

I’ve been reading our Bill of Rights. I’m not a lawyer, but the Constitution wasn’t written for lawyers. It’s begins, “We the people.” It’s ours. Those who wrote it knew tyranny, they had just overthrown their oppressive government. Yes, they were white men, and yes they had feet of clay, as do we all. They wisely gave us the Second Amendment in case government forgets what “unalienable rights” are. There’s nothing in it about hunting, crime, or personal protection and “Shall not be infringed” is very precise restrictive language. These men knew exactly what they were doing.

Our presidential hopefuls talk of bans and confiscation. Red flag laws assault our First, Fourth and Fifth amendments. Pseudo-Precogs choose who will forfeit their Constitutional rights. An angry utterance, slur or hateful thought triggers an ex parte hearing and someone will be branded and disarmed without due process. Those who would tell us what to think and how to live hate the Second Amendment.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
