Letter: City council stumbles

By Amy Brubaker, Vancouver

A stronger Vancouver … or a stupider Vancouver council? A day ago the news was how the city council awarded Holland Corporation a $772,000 tax break for promising some “affordable” housing in their future Block 10 building (“Vancouver gives Block 10 builder tax break,” The Columbian, Nov. 19). Yet, The Columbian reports how city council is looking at ways to raise our property taxes. What’s wrong with this picture of city council? And by the way, Mayor Pro Tem Bart Hansen is the only one who has ever called the beautiful green space and miniature park of Block 10 an eyesore. We do not want to be Portland!
