Letter: Grammar police are overwhelmed

I find it sad that John Richards felt compelled to admit defeat in his decadeslong fight for proper use of the apostrophe (“Former editor raises white flag on apostrophes,” The Washington Post, Dec. 8). Does this mean that my struggle to abolish the semicolon and the word “whom” will likewise be ground into dust?
