Mountain View Boys: Thunder building on lessons of last season

Mountain View’s impact players might be different, but nothing changes as far as style goes for the Thunder.

The Thunder finished third in the 3A Greater St. Helens League last season and went 11-12 overall. Since then, leading scorer Kaden Horn transferred to Union and all-league pick Sam Frosh graduated.

“We’re still going to play D; we’re still going to run,” third-year coach JC Alexander said. “We’re still going to have good quality basketball.”

Without a go-to scorer, the Thunder will place a bigger emphasis on defense. The early results have been positive.

“The guys are buying in,” Alexander said.

Senior guards Colby Smith (6-foot) and Mason Wulf (6-3), along with junior guard Austin Lee (6-1) will be asked to step into bigger roles this season.

“It’s a great group of kids to coach and be around,” Alexander said. “It will be a lot of fun.”

The Thunder still expect to compete for a playoff spot, and that means trusting everyone to take the process seriously.

“If any coach enters the season and says playoffs aren’t the goal, they’re lying,” Alexander said. “We want to build on what we established last year and keep Mountain View at the top of postseason talks.”
