Letter: Herrera Beutler’s views lacking

Thanks to the editorial staff of The Columbian for setting the record straight regarding our representative’s wrong-headed position on the impeachment issue (“In Our View: Herrera Beutler’s impeachment views lacking,” Dec. 17). Her statement read like copy for any newscaster on Fox News.

She obviously hasn’t read or studied the issues. She is obviously uneducated on what is required to impeach.

The “intent” of the president is not relevant. Congress has not only the power to subpoena, they have “contempt of Congress” power to arrest people who have refused to appear.

The biggest mistake the Democrats have made, in my opinion, was to refuse to exercise that contempt and arrest power. All of the people the president told not to appear should have been subpoenaed (if they weren’t), cited for contempt on their refusals and then arrested.

Republicans complain about evidence being thin? It’s the fault of your party, Jaime.

Can we get on to what’s important: ridding the White House of an admitted sexual predator, con man, and traitor.
