Letter: (Don’t) follow the money

By Dennis Green, Washougal
Published: December 26, 2019, 6:00am

My letter is in response to the letter “Democrats shifting to socialism?” (Our Readers’ Views, Dec. 12) The letter is a perfect example of how uncontrolled capitalism does not work. All of the presidential candidates listed are wealthy but not rich. If you add the bottom 10 candidates their total net worth is $53 million. The top two candidates are worth $57.6 billion, 1,087 times more than the combined wealth of the bottom 10. This is the problem and the top two are both running to change the tax structure against the ultra-rich.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
