Letter: Trump working to get things done

By Kenneth J. Kraemer, Vancouver

Could we stop the tiresome whining about how horrible Trump is for shutting down the government? Border security has been a problem since the Reagan administration, and professional politicians have done nothing to resolve the situation. Now, when an outsider is elected and actually proposes a step for a solution, the elitist insiders band together to block any action they themselves have been proposing for the past four administrations. This particular shutdown can be attributed to Nancy Pelosi, despite anything the compliant media says — which, by the way, never has the same sympathy or publicity for seasonal workers (loggers, construction, etc.) that face shutdowns as a way of life.

Another query: Why are government services that actually serve a purpose for the people shut down first, when departments of energy, education, and labor, which don’t seem to have purpose other than make rules and shuffle documents, are never mentioned as “shut down”?

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
