Letter: Corruption is the wrong track

The Don Brunell column (“America headed down wrong track,” The Columbian, Feb. 12) lacks any facts as to what or why he thinks this is happening. Nobody is “scrapping capitalism” and the tax cuts he touts picked winners, the rich, and gave taxpayers the loss, debt. The same for the Bush and Reagan tax cuts.

Brunell’s scary predictions of becoming a dictatorship like Venezuela will only come about if democracy is undermined by rich and powerful corruption — corruption we see in the Trump/Republican government. Republicans attempted to sweep Russian interference in our democracy under the rug.

Thankfully, Democrats are now leading a real investigation into that. Brunell should be more concerned of the path his corrupt Republicans have taken, purchasing American government through blatant corruption.
