Drought persists in Ore., but winter dampens effects

EUGENE, Ore. — Recent rain and snow haven’t been enough to make the specter of drought go away in Oregon.

Rainfall and snowpack numbers remain below normal for this time of year in the southern Willamette Valley and the nearby Cascade mountains. Winter and early spring is when precipitation recharges the water supply in Oregon, filling reservoirs and loading mountains with snow.
