The Clark County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of an attempted abduction Saturday morning, but no arrests were made by press time Saturday night. An investigation is ongoing.

At about 9:15 a.m., a witness called to report an attempted abduction in the 10700 block of Northeast 117th Avenue (state Highway 503).

A lone 15-year-old girl was walking south on the east-side sidewalk of the roadway, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office. The witness reported noticing a car stopped on the opposite side of the street. A suspect got out, watched the teenager, crossed four lanes of traffic and approached the girl.

The witness believed he was watching an attempted abduction, according to the sheriff’s office, but the teenager “was not interested in his conversations admiring her and told him to leave her alone or she would call the police.”

By this time, the witness was also approaching. The suspect left. There were no overt physical efforts at abduction, the sheriff’s office said.

The witness provided a license plate number and description of the suspect. The sheriff’s office is still investigating but said in a statement Saturday that its case “lacks the substantial step” that would make the incident an attempted crime.
