Weather Eye: Temperatures will stay below average this week

Our highs will be in the lower 40s all week which is much better than low to mid-30s. We should be in the low 50s for afternoon highs. Another surge of cold arctic air will filter into Eastern Washington and the Columbia Basin this coming week. Lows will be near zero in some places and highs in the 20s.

We have to watch out once again for lowland snow. Hopefully it remains above 500-1,000 feet in the foothills. But don’t be surprised to see some mixing in this week with any showery weather.

Weather systems are forecast to come in from the north-northwest keeping us without a premature sighting of springlike weather. Scratch that this year.

Snow remains deep on the ground in our foothills and other lower elevations such as Goldendale.

Hail was reported Saturday in the county as well as along the southern Washington Coast.

The down side for the rest of the month is that temperatures are forecast to remain much below average. The good news is that March is not far away and the sun angle is rising higher each day.

At least a great deal of snow is falling in the mountains, bringing us up to just about average or higher. Good news. And perhaps the late winter burst of freezing weather helped eradicate some of the insect pests. Maybe less stink bugs.

Have a great week and we will chat on Tuesday.
