Letter: Tax plan doesn’t help middle class

My husband and I just filed our 2018 taxes, and we are really questioning Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler’s very vocal assertions that the tax changes enacted last year will help the middle class of Clark County. Turns out that this year my husband and I contributed $6,000 to the billionaire 1 percent who actually benefited from this new tax law.

We are retired and live on a modest pension and Social Security. We are not struggling financially, but we have relied on our income tax refund to help out with some expenses that have not been planned for, such as additional medical/dental expenses, new tires, etc. This year we can go to dinner and a movie with our refund. So thanks for nothing to the Republicans who passed this law. Helping the middle class? Hardly.
