Ronald Morrison’s letter, “Beware rhetoric of bill,” objects to the title of S.311, “Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act,” as “grandstanding” and “lurid.” Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., (author of the 2018 book “Them: Why we hate each other–and how to heal”) considered this bill (of which he is the sponsor) so non-controversial that he asked the Senate to pass it without a vote (“unanimous consent”), presuming that no senator would object to requiring a doctor to give the same medical care to a baby born alive after a failed abortion as to a child of the same gestational age born prematurely. Sen. Patty Murray objected.
“Grandstanding?” Ask the mothers (mostly poor, minority women) whose babies abortionist Kermit Gosnell was convicted of killing in his Philadelphia “clinic” after they survived late-term abortions.
Finally, Morrison claims that only abortions for “serious medical conditions” are performed in the last months of pregnancy. Dr. Anthony Levatino, board-certified OB-GYN, cared for women with high-risk pregnancies and states that “life-threatening medical conditions” in late pregnancy are best treated with delivery (safer for mother), not abortion (more risky for mother).
