House Bill 1638 aims to prevent philosophical exemptions from vaccines. This bill was introduced after the recent measles outbreak in Clark County. I believe each parent has a right to decide what is put into their child’s body without government interference. Clark County’s vaccination rate is around 78 percent, with the percentage needing to be around 90-95 percent for herd immunity. Despite 22 percent of the population being unvaccinated, there were only 62 cases of measles during the outbreak to date. This is a very small percentage of the population and should not result in a bill that will impact choices that parents have for their children.
