Letter: Herrera Beutler is disingenuous

By David Bennett, Vancouver

In her Feb. 17 commentary in The Columbian (“Preventing Maternal Deaths Act will help save lives“), Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, boasts of her recent legislative success. Although this may be a laudable accomplishment, her voting record suggests that she is hardly an advocate for maternal health. The Affordable Care Act had a much greater impact on maternal health by making insurance available to all, expanding Medicaid, and eliminating pre-existing condition clauses. She voted over 80 times to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Herrera Beutler should spare us her disingenuous self-promotion.
