Hough — Neighbors in Hough, friends and relatives joined together on Jan. 28 to plant a witness tree in memory of Jenice Ruland, who died in January 2018. Ruland and her husband, Dale Ruland, were previously honored with the neighborhood’s Sparkles Award for being part of Hough’s Sound Wall Action Team, which cleaned up litter along the Mill Plain sound wall each week. Dale Ruland was on hand for the witness tree planting. The city of Vancouver has a Witness Tree program allowing residents to plant a tree in honor or memory of a special person or event.
