Letter: Tax changes not as promised

I am paying thousands more in taxes this year as I met the $10,000 limit quickly filing to federal taxes.

Not counting as tax deductions beyond this limitation are the contributions to educational institutions, athletic support, Salvation Army, art museums, American Red Cross, alumni associations, large tax receipts for Washington sale items, Goodwill Industries, feeding and housing for the less fortunate, veterans foundations, Indian groups, church, boys and girls clubs, police and firefighter, animal rights, and many other charitable contributions.

In my opinion, this limitation will affect charity organizations, as people will realize that these contributions cannot be deducted, as well as medical and other supportive expenses. Remember Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, congresswoman for the 3rd District, and other Republicans promising less taxes? It is not happening!

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
