The Green New Deal is not a bad investment, as some may think. Most older Americans are opposed to this idea simply because it is thought to be a socialist movement. Socialism is seen as a literal threat to our existence, but this kind of infrastructure control might be what we really need in order to encourage environment-polluting corporations to change their ways.
Socialism is subject to the needs of the society, hence preventing under-production and over-production — which by itself creates less pollution because there is no waste of energy, resources, and materials. The Green New Deal is not meant to cause harm, but to create a massive program of investments in clean-energy jobs and infrastructure. It is meant both to decarbonize the economy and to make it fairer and more just.
Even the recent report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has shown that humanity has just about a decade to get carbon emissions under control before catastrophic climate change impacts become unavoidable and extremely difficult to reverse.
