The Arthur D. Curtis Children’s Justice Center is seeking volunteers to help combat child sexual abuse, exploitation and violence.

People wanting to help out will work with the Friends of Children’s Justice Center committee on community outreach and education about child abuse, as well as fundraising and legislative efforts.

The Children’s Justice Center is holding an informational meeting for anyone interested in joining the committee at 4:30 p.m. Jan. 28 at 601 W. Evergreen Blvd., Suite 101, Vancouver.

More than 2,600 Clark County children were subject to reported child abuse in 2017, and the center provided services to more than 460 of the most seriously harmed by sexual abuse and violence, according to a news release from the Children’s Justice Center.

“A report of child abuse is made every 10 seconds in the United States, and child abuse and neglect costs our nation $220 million every day in investigations, foster care, medical and mental health treatment, special education, juvenile and adult crime, and chronic health problems across the lifespan,” the news release reads.

Executive Director Amy Russell said the center is always in need of dedicated and compassionate volunteers to provide support services to affected children.
