Letter: Light rail is the way to go

We need more grown-ups at the table.

Hey kids, quit throwing the food around — I mean you, Jaime Herrera Beutler, Lynda Wilson, Ann Rivers, Paul Harris, and Brandon Vick.

I am talking about their letter to Gov. Jay Inslee admonishing him for agreeing to talk with Oregon legislators about the possibility of a bridge with light rail. It’s understandable that Oregon legislators are reluctant to start talks again after the scandalous way they were treated in the previous effort to replace the Interstate 5 Bridge.

Personally, we like traveling on the light rail. We can drive across the river in minutes and park for free at the Expo Center and ride into Portland for a pittance. We don’t have to worry about crowded streets and expensive parking when we arrive. It’s a breeze! I have never had a problem with other riders.

Oftentimes I share the ride with polite people who offer me their seat, because of my gray hair.

I sure don’t get treated as rudely on light rail as I do in a car driving the speed limit over the bridge when the drivers behind me are vying for a spot in front of me.
