Letter: Writer is right: Drop the ‘Lady’

I support the position expressed by The Columbian’s Tim Martinez in the article “It’s past time to drop ‘Lady’ mascots” (Dec. 30, The Columbian). About 20 years ago, I submitted a letter to the editor that attempted to make the same point. Twenty years later, we still have local schools diminishing female athletes with the subtle but unmistakable message that they are less-than. Thanks to Mr. Martinez for bringing this issue up. Perhaps bringing the discussion to the Opinion section will add some momentum to what I hope is a movement long past due.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
