The indoor track and field season is off and running.

Two Washington State University athletes from Clark County are enjoying fast starts.

Peyton Fredrickson, a senior from Skyview, won the high jump Saturday at the New Mexico Team Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.

Fredrickson cleared 6 feet, 10.75 inches to win the event by 1.25 inches. It comes one week after he cleared 6-11 at the WSU Indoor Open, a mark that ranks 32nd in the nation.

Last season, Fredrickson placed fifth in the Pac-12 Championships, where he cleared 6-11.

Saturday also saw Emma Jenkins, a freshman from Camas, set a WSU record at the UW Invitational in Seattle. Jenkins’ time of 9 minutes, 43.66 seconds was the fastest indoor time ever run by a WSU freshman in the 3,000 meters.

Jenkins is coming off a cross country season that saw her make an instant impact. She was WSU’s top finisher in three races and placed 54th at the Pac-12 Championships.

Also at the UW Invitational, Alexis Fuller helped Boise State set a school record in the distance medley relay on Friday.

The next day, the senior from Union ran the second-fastest indoor 800 meters in school history. Competing against pro and collegiate runners, her time of 2:06.39 was the third fastest in her heat and the best by a collegiate runner in the event.
