Man stabbed outside Starbucks in Eugene

EUGENE, Ore. – A man was rushed to the hospital Saturday morning with life-threatening injuries after he was stabbed outside of a coffee shop in downtown Eugene.

A 40-year-old man was sitting at a table inside of the Starbucks on Willamette Street and Broadway having a cup of coffee around 7 a.m., according to Eugene police, when for an unknown reason he got up, went outside, and allegedly stabbed a man.

The victim had been sitting at a table outside. Police are investigating whether the two men knew each other and any possible motive.

The victim was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield with serious, life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was taken to the Lane County Jail on suspicion of first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

First-degree assault is a Measure 11 offense that carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 7 1/2 years.
