Letter: No excuse for Portland clashes

Attacking a reporter for reporting the news during an event is criminal. The recent abuse of Andy Ngo by Antifa in Portland was wrong.

Perhaps he was recognized by Antifa as the Libertarian-leaning reporter who has reported in the past about questionable actions of Antifa. Regardless, there’s no excuse. Portland has been a hotbed of controversy recently because of the interactions between extremists on left and right. “Far-right groups use these public spectacles as the method to incite violence,” Michael German said.

Antifa plays into these circumstances. Patriot Prayer, supported by the Proud Boys, has confronted Antifa with violent results. No matter who’s at fault this time, people need to remember both sides encourage this activity. Both conservative and liberal media need to have a fair and balanced reporting of the news.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
