Letter: Trump meets impeachment standard

By Katie De Long, Vancouver
Published: July 22, 2019, 6:00am

It is past time to evaluate whether this president’s behaviors meet our founding fathers’ standard for impeachment. A president who chooses foreign intervention over the will of the American people is the exact scenario they foresaw when designing impeachment. A president who cheers on violent white supremacists while they terrorize American communities of color and religious minorities would meet their standard, too, because of our country’s shared, evolved values. A president who seeks to inspire stochastic violence against his political opponents would meet their standards.

Mr. Trump’s values have no place in American leadership. Mr. Trump’s presence in the Oval Office degrades American voting rights, election integrity, human rights leadership, citizen safety, and religious freedom. Who will do their job and oversee this unstable, violent bigot if not Jaime Herrera Beutler, our elected representative?
