Letter: Party of Lincoln, Reagan is no more

I don’t recognize today’s Republican Party. They have lost their souls.

I am a white 70-year-old male and remember an ideology of fiscal responsibility, less government, and support of the law. After 2016, the GOP controlled all our branches of government and didn’t pass significant legislation. No making America Great Again. No infrastructure, no health care, no addressing the immigration dilemma, only nominating government officials of incompetence and governing with self-servicing dishonesty.

Their only apparent interest is to maintain power and monetary dominance. They needed to pass a tax cut for their elite donors. Lindsey Graham was quoted after the 2016 election saying if the GOP did not pass a new tax cut for their donors they would cease to exist.

The GOP feign support of the rule of law, but they allow the denigration of the FBI, our security branches and court judges for political purposes. Today’s GOP doesn’t represent the diversity of today’s America. The party of everyone is welcome in the Big Tent doesn’t look like the new America.

Without major change they will continue to be a circus and become irrelevant in the future as the country continues to evolve. The GOP has enabled the misdeeds of the current occupant of the White House with their see-no-evil (William Barr), hear-no-evil (Lindsey Graham), speak-no-evil (Mitch McConnell), do-no-evil (Mike Pence) enablers. It is sad that the party of Lincoln and Reagan is no more.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
