Two motorcycles crashed into a sport-utility vehicle in east Vancouver, killing two people and injuring two others Friday night.

The motorcycles were traveling westbound on Northeast 18th Street at about 11:45 p.m. when they struck a 2005 BMW X5 going southbound on Northeast 187th Avenue as it made a left turn, according to a press release from the Vancouver Police Department.

The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. An 8-year-old child, who was in the SUV, suffered minor injuries. An ambulance took the child to a hospital for evaluation.

A 23-year-old motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The second motorcyclist, also 23, went to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The Vancouver Police Department Traffic Unit, which is investigating, indicated that speed and alcohol appeared to be factors in the crash.
