Analysis: What is the Hatch Act, and why did Kellyanne Conway get accused of violating it so egregiously?

Here’s the Hatch Act in a sentence: If you work for a federal agency, you can’t use your taxpayer-funded office to advocate for your political beliefs.

Americans deserve a federal government that works for all of them, not just the people they agree with. That’s the philosophy behind the Hatch Act, which prevents federal employees from engaging in political activity while on the job.
