A Vancouver man found with child pornography was sentenced to 46 months in prison, must register as a sex offender, undergo psycho-sexual treatment and have no contact with children (“Man gets nearly 4 years for having child porn,” June 1, The Columbian). Some justice was served for having sexually explicit pictures.
What I don’t understand is why some men who are caught sexually abusing children for money are not severely punished, as well. I don’t understand why in the case of men who “pay” to abuse children, the children are arrested and charged with prostitution in many states in our country, while the “John” gets a slap to the wrist.
The most famous of these “Johns” may be the NFL star Lawrence Taylor. He paid for sex with a 16-year-old girl and didn’t serve one day in jail or pay a fine. He was given six years of probation and labeled as Level 1 sex offender, which means neither his picture nor his name will show up in the sex offender database.
Oh, by the way, the pimp who beat the victim into going to Taylor’s room was arrested for sex trafficking and sentenced to seven years in jail. But Taylor, the man who abused her — no jail time.
