A Clark County sheriff’s deputy has been released from the hospital after being injured in a crash Monday in northeast Vancouver.
Deputy Alex O’Hearn was treated and released Monday night from PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, according to a hospital spokesman. O’Hearn was T-boned in a five-car crash around 4:50 p.m. in the intersection of Northeast Fourth Plain Boulevard and Northeast 162nd Avenue. He was treated for head, neck and back pain, a sheriff’s office news release said.
O’Hearn was responding to a report of a stabbing in the 2800 block of Northeast 170th Avenue, which turned out to be unfounded and initiated by someone having a mental health crisis, the news release said. O’Hearn had activated his lights and sirens on his patrol SUV when he was hit by a car that was reportedly driving “super fast,” Vancouver Fire Capt. Dave James said.
The patrol vehicle nearly flipped before striking several other cars, causing minor injuries to another person, according to the sheriff’s office.
O’Hearn, 27, has worked for the sheriff’s office since last year.
The Vancouver Police Department’s Traffic Unit is investigating the crash. No conclusions on charges or citations have been made yet, department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said.
