State departments of natural resources and wildlife understand how nature works. That’s why it is illegal for humans to interfere by feeding, moving babies, hunting or fishing out of season, etc. There are penalties for violating these laws, commonly used to prosecute poachers who kill animals out of season.
Since illegal feeding too often results in the death of animals, these “feeders” should be prosecuted and penalized the same as any other person who has violated the law, because their actions have had the same bad end for wildlife. Maybe a few well-publicized convictions will finally convince the misguided do-gooders to become true conservationists and leave nature to take care of herself.
