A 24-year-old Vancouver man died Thursday night when his car veered off state Highway 503 and struck a tree.

Washington State Patrol troopers are continuing to investigate what caused Josef Watson to crash, according to a press memo.

Watson was driving a black Nissan Maxima around 5 p.m. on the highway at Milepost 14, about five miles north of Battle Ground, and lost control, troopers say.

He crossed the highway’s northbound lane, left the road and crashed into a tree. Watson’s car was totaled, according to the memo.

His family has been told about the fatal wreck.
