WEST VANCOUVER — The Foundation for Vancouver Public Schools raised a record $300,000 at its 17th annual luncheon on May 7 at the Hilton Vancouver Washington. Lt. Gov. Cyrus Habib gave the keynote address and discussed his battle with cancer and loss of his eyesight. Money raised will help support 23,000 students at 37 schools throughout the district. The Firstenburg Foundation also awarded the Foundation for Vancouver Public Schools a $50,000 challenge grant to support its Community Schools program. The Foundation for Vancouver Public Schools funds basic needs, mentoring, enrichment, early education, including support of 18 Family-Community Resource Centers with two mobile units. “This year, we celebrated the many talents of VPS students. We thank the Vancouver community for their support of high-quality public education for all students, including a strong K-12 arts program and career and technical education,” Foundation for Vancouver Public Schools Executive Director Nada Wheelock said in a news release.
